peaksaver® is a voluntary electricity Demand Response program funded by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to ease critical strain on the electricity system in Ontario during hot summer weekdays.

How does the peaksaver® program work?
Once you enrol in the peaksaver program, a new programmable thermostat will be installed at your residence which can be remotely turned up by two degrees Celsius by your electricity Distribution Company to reduce your Central Air Conditioner’s electricity demand automatically.
How often does the peaksaver® program get activated?
- Only on weekdays (Monday through Friday) from May 1st to September 30th.
- Any time between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m.
- Typically between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for a maximum of four hours.
- Not more than ten activations during the summer. (2008 had 5 activations and 2009 had only a single activation).
- AC fan will continue to operate so that there is only a 1° or 2° change in temperature of your home.
- You have the right to opt out in advance of a specified date by calling 1‑866‑380-6051.
Who is eligible to participate in the peaksaver® program?
- Have a central air conditioning unit that works.
- Live in a single family dwelling (home or townhouse).
- Be the homeowner or have the homeowner’s written permission to participate.
