Hydro One's Greener Choices program focuses employee efforts on improving three key areas of environmental performance: fleet, grass roots employee efforts and facilities.
Since its launch in 2008, more than 3,000 employees have participated in programs such as Earth Hour, Earth Week, the Clean Air Commute challenge as well as grass roots programs in communities across Ontario.
Hydro One's fleet has welcomed more hybrid and smaller GHG footprint vehicles to the fleet, encouraging employees to think about the right tool for the job, not bigger is better.
Hydro One is upgrading facilities across the province, making improvements to efficiency where renovations will reduce costs and improve performance in a meaningful way. A pilot project is underway to build a new service centre in Picton, Ontario, to meet LEED standards.
