Our children's electrical safety education (elementary students up to 13 years old) program is designed to educate children about ways to protect themselves from dangers posed by electrical facilities and encourage the safe use of electricity.
Electrical Safety Presentations
Hydro One Networks has electrical service connections with over 1,000 elementary schools across Ontario. We visit schools every 4 years and give presentations to students about how to use electricity safely. Our presenters use electrical hazard simulators such as Hazard Hamlet, our fictional "hero" featured in our safety booklets, along with High Line Hazard.
Safety booklets featuring Hazard Hamlet are distributed to students following school presentations. Download free copies of the booklets below:
Educational CD-Rom
"The Wonders of Electricity…an adventure in safety" is our CD-Rom for children aged 8 to 11, which is provided to elementary schools and public libraries throughout the province. To order a copy for your classroom, please contact Webmaster@HydroOne.com with your mailing address.
Sponsorships and Partnerships
Hydro One Networks supports community safety initiatives, such as the Children's Safety Village of London Area and the Community Safety Village of York Region. Opportunities such as these help us to reinforce the electrical safety messages we deliver in the schools.
Hydro One Networks has partnered with The Hospital for Sick Children to provide electrical safety information to children, parents, and health care providers through the use of computers. The Hospital for Sick Children has a public website called AboutKidsHealth, which is dedicated to the health and wellness of children and provides health information in formats appropriate to different age groups of children and to their parents.
