On Jan. 14, 2015 at Hydro One's Markham office, Jim Burpee, President and CEO of the Canadian Electricity Association, presented Carm Marcello, President and CEO of Hydro One, with a framed certificate recognizing Hydro One as a Sustainable Electricity Company™ for the utility's commitment to sustainable business practices.
Hydro One is the fourth electricity company in Canada to receive such an honour since the designation was established in 2009. The Sustainable Electricity Company™ Designation, established by the CEA for electrical utilities across Canada, acknowledges success against the three foundational pillars of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability:
- Managing environmental impact
- Delivering social and society benefit; and
- Achieving strong economic performance.
In accepting the certificate, Marcello said, "I am incredibly proud to receive this designation from the Canadian Electricity Association on behalf of Hydro One. It recognizes the outstanding job our employees do in delivering electricity in a socially responsible and sustainable manner and in meeting the high expectations of our customers and the people of Ontario."
He added: "I want to thank the many employees who were directly involved in the Sustainable Electricity Company™ designation initiative. There was a ton of work that went into the data collection and verification process and it was only through the efforts of our people that we were able to earn this important recognition."
"This designation is a reflection of Hydro One's unwavering commitment to integrating sustainable business practices into its operations and activities," Burpee said. "Addressing sustainability challenges is critical in today's dynamic energy environment, and I applaud the achievements of Hydro One's management and staff."
