About Hydro One

Energizing Life in Ontario for over 110 years

Hydro One is Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution service provider. We distribute electricity across Ontario to nearly 1.5 million predominantly rural customers, or approximately 26% of the total number of customers in Ontario. In November 2015, we became a publicly traded company on the Toronto ​​Stock Exchange (H). Learn more.​

Our history dates back over 110 years to 1906 when the Ontario Legislature passed the Power Commission Act establishing the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario (HEPC). We distribute electricity to almost 1.5​ million residential and business customers covering approximately 75 per cent of the geographic area of Ontario.

We own, manage and maintain enough electricity distribution lines to wrap around the Earth three times.

Our service territory covers approximately 90 per cent of the province. We also generate and distribute electricity to 22 remote communities in Ontario's far north.
