June 8, 2011 | Hydro One submits final Environmental Study Report (ESR)

Hydro One has issued the final ESR for the proposed Tremaine Transformer Station (TS) project. The Draft ESR was submitted for a 30-day Public and Agency review period which began September 22, 2010 and ended October 22, 2010.  During the review, one Part II Order request was received by the Minister of the Environment, requesting that the project be subject to an Individual Environmental Assessment (EA). On February 18, 2011, the Minister ruled that Hydro One's proposed Tremaine TS does not require an Individual EA.

The project is now considered approved, and can proceed as outlined in the ESR. Hydro One must now proceed to obtain other necessary permits, licenses and approvals prior to the start of construction.  Construction is scheduled to start as early as September 2011, with a planned in-service of January 2013.  Download the final ESR on the Approvals page.

May 2010 | Hydro One identifies preferred site for a new transformer station

Subsequent to the Public Information Centre held in April 2009 and based on public input and additional technical information, including environmental, socio-economic and the selection of available properties, Hydro One has identified a preferred site for the proposed station on the west side of Tremaine Road, north of Highway 407 in the City of Burlington.

Hydro One’s preferred location was chosen based on an evaluation of available sites within the study area. The preferred site is adjacent to Parkway Belt lands intended for future utility use and situated between two existing transmission rights-of-way. The site is compatible with surrounding land uses and poses no engineering constraints. As a result, Hydro One is proposing to build the new TS on the west side of Tremaine Road to provide more capacity in the area.
