Highway 407 East Corridors - Transmission Tower Modifications Project

Project Background
Hydro One is planning to relocate  transmission towers, and new towers, to sections of our 230 kV transmission line in the Regional Municipality of  Durham.  This work is necessary to accommodate the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) expansion of the 407 East Transportation Corridor which received Environmental Assessment approval in June, 2010.  In April 2011, a Class Environmental Assessment was initiated by Hydro One to make these modifications to the electricity transmission system.

Project Description
In order to accommodate the expansion of Highway 407 East, Hydro One must make modifications to our transmission facilities at six locations in the Regional Municipality of Durham. These tower relocations and new tower installations were identified by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) as part of the approved Highway 407 East Environmental Assessment (EA) which was approved in June, 2010.

This work will involve relocating transmission towers, and adding additional towers. These tower modifications and additions are necessary to accommodate the Highway 407 East expansion, and to ensure a continued safe and reliable supply of electricity east of Toronto. The project will also involve installing access roads, dismantling towers, installing new tower foundations and re-stringing conductor (wire).

The tower modifications will occur in the following communities:
