Ensuring a safe and reliable supply of power for homes and businesses in Ontario is Hydro One's top priority. An important step to sustaining this commitment involves maintaining and renewing our infrastructure.

Hydro One has identified sections of its 115 kilovolt (kV) transmission line between Burlington and Hamilton which require refurbishment to maintain a continued delivery of safe, reliable electricity and minimize the risk of future power interruptions.

As part of the planning process for this project, Hydro One completed a Class Environmental Assessment for Minor Transmission Facilities (2022), which is in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. This process ensures transmission projects that have a predictable range of impacts have feasible environmental mitigation and protection measures in place.

Based on our work to date, it has been determined additional environmental studies are required for a separate bypass project, Westover to Copetown, which has resulted in construction delays in completing a portion of the refurbishment work on the Burlington to Westover transmission line.

PROJECT PROFILE

This project involves refurbishing the existing 115 kV transmission line between Burlington Transformer Station (TS) in the City of Burlington and the Enbridge Westover Customer Transformer Station (CTS) in the City of Hamilton. The project has been divided into two segments of construction, Burlington TS to Harpers Junction and Harpers Junction to the Enbridge Westover CTS. View a map of the study area.

Public Information Centres

Public consultation is an integral component of the Class Environmental Assessment process. Hydro One hosted Public Information Centres (PIC’s) in October and November 2017 to share information about the Burlington to Westover Transmission Line Refurbishment project and to gather feedback from community members. PIC’s were held in Westover Village, Millgrove and Burlington.
