Approvals

This transformer station is subject to the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act approval in accordance with the Class Environmental Assessment for Minor Transmission Facilities. The Class EA study involved the identification and comparative evaluation of alternate sites to select a recommended site for the TS.

Hydro One issued the draft Environmental Study Report (ESR) for the proposed Duart Transformer Station (TS) project for a 60-day public and agency review and comment period. A Notice of Completion advertisement was also published in local newspapers (PDF 93 KB). Download the Draft ESR and Appendices below. During the review period, one Part II Order request was received by the Minister of the Environment, requesting that the project be subject to an Individual Environmental Assessment (EA). On March 26, 2010, the Minister ruled that Hydro One's proposed Duart Transformer Station does not require an Individual EA. Read the details of Minister's decision here.

Hydro One must now proceed to obtain other necessary permits, licenses and approvals prior to the start of construction. Hydro One will apply for Air and Drainage Certificates of Approval, to ensure that the station is compliant with Ministry of the Environment’s guidelines. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2011, with a planned in-service of May 2012.
