Wood Poles Replacement ProjectWOOD POLE REPLACEMENTs

Hydro One owns and operates Ontario's 29,000 km high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities.  This network consists of approximately 1.6 million wood pole structures. Over time, these wood poles can weaken due to poor weather conditions, insects, birds and wildlife.

In order to maintain the reliability and safety of our wood pole structures, Hydro One regularly inspects and replaces older poles, or poles weakened by the effects of weather.  As part of our ongoing maintenance activities for our transmission lines, Hydro One identifies poles that need to be replaced through our pole testing program, which involves tests to determine pole strength.
