Student Awards The William Peyton Hubbard Award Hydro One sponsors two annual awards for outstanding black students attending an Ontario college or university. The awards are in honour of William Peyton Hubbard, Toronto's first black alderman, controller and acting mayor who was unwavering in his support for the development and public ownership of hydroelectric power in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. In addition to a cash award, the William Peyton Hubbard Memorial Award winners are given an opportunity to obtain a paid position performing developmental work with Hydro One.
Hydro One Aboriginal Scholarships The Hydro One Aboriginal Scholarships are intended to support Aboriginal students living in Ontario who are studying in a field that could lead to a career in the energy sector. This would include engineering or engineeering technology, computer science, environmental science, human resources, Aboriginal studies, business administration, communications, marketing, pre-law or science. The scholarship program is administered through the National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation (NAAF), which was founded in March, 1985.
