William Peyton Hubbard Awards 2003 Winners

Geoff Ogram, Vice President of Business Development, stands with award recipient Shevonne Wharton
Shevonne Wharton
Shevonne Wharton has completed her second year in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she has also been a member of the varsity track team, and a member of the executive council of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Student Section. Shevonne will be spending her third year of university as a participant of the Ontario/Rôhn-Alpes Student Exchange program studying in Grenoble France. When she has completed her studies, she intends to eventually pursue a career in consulting engineering.

Outside of school she is involved in a variety of artistic and athletic activities, including photography and lifeguard competitions. She has done volunteer work for community events held at the Crescent Town Community Centre, and for publications such as the engineering student magazine, Project Magazine. She will also be helping out at this year's Visions of Science program at U of T, and the annual St. Lawrence Neighborhood Picnic.

Philip White accepts award from Keith Hinkson of the Association of Black Employees of Ontario Hydro Successor Companies
Philip White
Philip White attends the University of Western Ontario and has just completed his second year in the Finance & Administration program. He is also pursuing a Certificate in Business French in conjunction with the French Chamber of Commerce.

While on campus, Philip is involved in numerous extra-curricular activities. During the past school year, he held the position of Secretary on the Black Students' Association. He also filled the duties of Vice-President of Finance for the Saugeen-Maitland Hall Residents' Students' Council.

Philip also acts as captain for his intramural basketball team, regularly attends church and participates in a bible study group.

After entertaining the idea of professions in accounting, marketing, ambassadorship, or a position in the clergy, Philip has made a conscious effort not to specialize or focus his education and experiences in one specific area. In this way, he can be sure that his skills will be adaptable to numerous fields when he enters the job market on a full-time basis.

Hydro One congratulates Shevonne and Philip on their achievements and wishes them both well in their future endeavours.
