ACT FoundationACT Foundation - www.actfoundation.ca

The Advanced Coronary Treatment (ACT) Foundation of Canada is a national charitable organization with a mission to promote health and empower Canadians to save lives, through CPR training, early defibrillation programs, paramedic systems, and primarily through establishing mandatory high school CPR training across Canada.

Hydro One has been a provincial funding partner of ACT Foundation's CPR High School Training Programs since 2000, and has assisted in the expansion of these programs across the province.

Earth Day Canada (EDC) is a national charitable organization founded on the premise that the good health of the environment is the responsibility of every citizen. Their mission is to improve the state of the environment by empowering and helping Canadians to take positive environmental action.

Hydro One has proudly supported and expanded the EcoAction Teams Program since 2005. The EcoAction Teams Program is an Ontario-wide program that provides tools and solutions to help Ontarians address climate change by conserving energy and natural resources, reducing household waste, and choosing alternative transportation options.


Frontier College Foundation - www.frontiercollegefoundation.ca


Frontier College and the Frontier College Foundation are proud leaders and supporters of literacy in Canada. They work to mobilize volunteers to act as mentors and peer tutors, engage youth leaders and their development, and support community capacity building, through training, workshops, and resource development.

Hydro One is a supporter of the Lieutenant Governor's Aboriginal Literacy Summer Camps, which is managed through Frontier College. These camps make a huge difference in the lives of young people in 28 First Nation communities in Ontario, by incorporating literacy in fun, engaging, and effective ways. In 2007, Hydro One is supporting the camps in Webequie, Fort Severn and Pic Mobert.



Ontario Science Centre - www.ontariosciencecentre.ca

The Ontario Science Centre is the largest museum-based education program provider in Canada, with over 240,000 students from over 2,000 schools taking part on the Science Centre's school programs each year.

Hydro One's belief in the importance of supporting education initiatives is a natural fit with the Science Centre's involvement in science and technology education. Hydro One takes pride in supporting Professional Development Programs at the Ontario Science Centre. These programs offer educators a chance to participate in hands-on demonstrations and discussions, and to take these lessons back to the classroom.

 


Our Youth At Work

Our Youth at Work was founded by Rob Ellis after his 18 year old son died in a workplace injury. Through its creation, Our Youth at Work has developed international partnerships with companies dedicated to protecting young workers on the job, by building bridges between students, parents, teachers and executives to initiate the transfer of knowledge about the rights and responsibilities of safety in the workplace.

Hydro One has been a corporate champion of Our Youth at Work since 2005. Through our generous support, Our Youth at Work, Rob Ellis and his team have expanded their programs and presentations to many more communities and schools across Ontario.


Scientists in School - www.scientistsinschool.ca

Scientists in School is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to inspire greater understanding and interest in science and technology, and to increase environmental awareness in young children. Scientists in School's goals are accomplished through half-day classroom programs in which enthusiastic scientists guide elementary students through exciting, hands-on, investigative science activities.

Hydro One is a proud supporter of these programs since 2002, and has expanded these innovative programs to regions across Ontario and into Hydro One Communities. We take pride in contributing to the program which reaches approximately 450,000 students annually.


Sci-Tech Ontario Inc. - www.scitechontario.org

Sci-Tech Ontario is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization whose mandate is to promote and celebrate youth participation, excellence, and innovation in science, and technology. Specifically, they act as a resource group to support the regional science and technology fairs across Ontario with funding, information, coordination, and advice. They also support the teaching and learning of science and technology in Ontario schools by conducting teacher workshops and providing them with curriculum resource material.

Hydro One has been a supporter of Sci-Tech since 2005, and has focused its support to Sci-Tech's core programs -Regional Science Fair Programs, with an expansion into new communities, and the creation of the Hydro One Energy Ambassador Award, awarded to winning science projects in each of the 30 regional science fairs in Ontario.

Skills/Compétences Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies to Canadian youth. Skills Canada- Ontario provides innovative programming that reaches thousands of young people across the province each year.

Hydro One proudly sponsors the growth and development of "Skills Work!® For Youth" Employability Skills Camps, summer day camp which provides young students with hands-on activities. In addition, we support "Skills Work!® For Women" Networking Dinner, which allows young women interested in skills trade to meet women working in the trades.


SMARTRISK - www.smartrisk.ca

Buckle Up, Look First, Wear the Gear, Get Trained, Drive Sober

SMARTRISK is a national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives. SMARTRISK was founded in 1992, by pediatric surgeon Dr. Robert Conn, who chose to change his career focus from repairing injuries to preventing them. SMARTRISK is one of the leading injury prevention groups in Canada and enjoys international recognition and support.

Hydro One has been a supporter of SMARTRISK since 2000. We are particularly proud to support SMARTRISK's No Regrets, a peer leadership program for Canadian high school students that focuses on preventing injuries in areas relevant to youth and SMARTRISK Heroes, a multimedia performance program designed to move and educate young people about taking smart risks in their lives.



Sunnybrook Foundation - http://www.sunnybrook.ca/foundation

The Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is an academic centre of excellence that in partnership with its communities and fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, ensures a full range of high quality, values-based, patient-centred services and is a leader in women's health.

Hydro One has generously supported the establishment of a Hydro One Chair in Electrical Injury in the Ross Tilley Burn Unit. This position is permanently endowed to support clinical, academic leadership, and best practices for treatment in the field of electrical injury. Prior to this, there was no centre of expertise in Canada for individuals who had sustained electrical injuries, and there was few research and insight into the long-term effects due to the low incidence and prevalence of these injuries. Hydro One is proud to be part of this position, ensuring that Sunnybrook's excellence and service is there to Hydro One employees and communities, when it matters most.


United Way of Canada - www.unitedway.ca


United Way of Greater Toronto is an incorporated non-profit charity focused on improving the long-term health of our community. They run Canada's largest annual fundraising campaign in support of 200 social service agencies providing a vital network of support.

Hydro One, and the Hydro One Employees' and Pensioners' Charity Campaign support all of the 46 United Way Campaigns in Ontario. We feel strongly about supporting the communities in which our customers and employees live and work, and have been doing so for several years. Support to the United Way is donated through employee and pensioner pledges, corporate gifts, and special events.
