Hydro One is committed to providing you with the most up-to-date information on the electricity industry. Changes in legislation and technology affect how electricity is generated and transmitted, as well as how much electricity costs. Electricity Prices The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has announced new prices for electricity, effective November 1, 2006. As part of their Regulated Price Plan, the OEB reviews, and may adjust, electricity prices and price thresholds for the summer and winter months. This review takes place every six months. For residential, seasonal and most farm customers, the price of electricity is now 5.5 cents/kWh to 1,000 kWh/month and 6.4 cents/kWh for any additional usage. Learn more.
Seasonal Price Threshold On November 1, 2006, the OEBs Regulated Price Plan (RPP) switches to winter mode. The RPP takes into consideration increased electricity consumption resulting from limited daylight hours and extended use of electric heating during the winter months. Increasing the threshold from 600 kWh/month in the summer to 1,000 kWh/month in the winter also benefits homeowners who are dependent on using electricity to heat their homes. So using electricity wisely, employing low-cost conservation methods and keeping your monthly usage around 1,000 kWh will help you manage your bills this fall and winter. Learn more. Delivery Rates The Ontario Energy Board has also approved a delivery rate increase for all Hydro One customers starting May 1, 2006. While specific delivery rates have yet to be confirmed, residential customers (using 1,000 kWh/month) will see a modest increase of 4.8% on their May 17th bill. Learn more.
