Hydro One PowerPlay Grants for Projects in Ontario

March 3, 2008 — Hydro One announced today it is contributing more than $450,000 in 48 Ontario communities through its new PowerPlay grant program. The PowerPlay grant program is designed to provide funding towards developments that benefit children's outdoor and active play facilities.

"We are proud to support community efforts to expand safe, healthy play facilities for children in Ontario," said Laura Formusa, Hydro One President and CEO. "The PowerPlay program is one of the many ways Hydro One can invest in the well-being of the communities in which we live and work."

The PowerPlay program, launched in August 2007, is open to municipalities and registered charities in Hydro One-served communities. The program offers grants up to $25,000. This includes new facilities and renovation of existing facilities that are open and accessible to the community at large. Additional funding may be available where energy efficiency measures are incorporated into the project.

Hydro One is accepting applications now for the next round of grants, with a deadline of April 30, 2008.

A list of recently announced grants is provided below.

Recipient:		Caledon Youth Services, Town of Caledon
Project:		Construction of "John's Rink," an outdoor ice rink to encourage recreational skating. The rink is in memory of John Davidson, a Rotarian and an advocate for youth programs.
Funding:		$10,000

Recipient:		Town of Shelburne
Project:		Renovations to the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex to accommodate indoor winter activities.
Funding:		$10,000

Recipient:		Town of Erin
Project:		Construction of Skateboard Park in the Village of Hillsburgh to provide a safe environment for local youth.
Funding:		$10,000

Recipient:		Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation
Project:		Renovations to the gym floor in the Makwa Community Centre.
Funding:		$10,000

Recipient:		Municipality of Tweed
Project:		Construction of the Erin Palmateer Outdoor Memorial Pool, in memory of a local lifeguard and swim instructor.
Funding:		$25,000

Recipient:		Municipality of Trent Hills
Project:		Construction of the Campbellford concrete skateboard park in Kennedy Park.
Funding:		$10,000

Recipient:		Township of Madawaska Valley
Project:		Expansion of the existing Lakeshore Park to include a safe playground for toddlers.
Funding:		$5,000

Recipient:		City of Quinte West
Project:		Construction of the Frankford Splash Pad.
Funding:		$5,000
