Archives SMOOTH TRANSITION TO YEAR 2000 FOR ONTARIO HYDRO SERVICES COMPANY 1:30 A.M. EST January 1, 2000 Ontario Hydro Services Company (OHSC) reports the company has returned to normal operating procedures following a smooth transition to the year 2000. "Throughout the evening, hundreds of OHSC employees sacrificed their New Year’s celebrations with friends and family, and were at work prepared to respond quickly to customer needs if an unforeseen Y2K problem arose," said Ron Stewart, Chief Operating Officer. "I believe our rollover to the Year 2000 has been a success, and I thank our employees for all their efforts, and our customers for their support and cooperation." OHSC customers residing in the Central Time Zone in northwestern Ontario have also passed through the rollover period and no Y2K-related problems have been reported. The successful transition follows a comprehensive three-year program to prepare OHSC for the year 2000. Over the next several days OHSC will be verifying the successful transition of important business systems, such as billing and payroll services. OHSC is an electricity transmission and distribution, telecom and energy services company. Through its subsidiaries, it owns and operates Ontario’s high voltage transmission system transporting electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, owns and operates low voltage distribution facilities serving about 930,000 retail customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province, and owns and operates a province-wide telecom system. OHSC has approximately 5,600 full-time employees at its facilities and offices throughout Ontario. It is a commercial successor company to Ontario Hydro, and officially began operation in April 1999. -30- For further information, please contact the Media Desk at (416) 345-6868 or visit our website at www.ohsc.com. |
