OTTAWA, May 4, 2001 - Hydro One Networks is sponsoring the very first Tulip Gateway Parade that will be held Saturday May 12 to kick off the Ottawa Tulip Festival.

"We're delighted with the opportunity to be part of this program," explained Eleanor Clitheroe, Hydro One President and CEO.

The first leg of the parade will begin at 8 a.m. in Morrisburg and travel along Highway 31 before ending at Lansdowne Park about 10:30 a.m. The company is also hosting a Tulip festival barbecue as part of the flotilla display at Lansdowne Park from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The final leg of the parade begins at Lansdowne Park at 12:30 p.m. and travels along Queen Elizabeth Drive to Elgin, Elgin to Rideau and then Sussex to Major's Hill Park.

The parade also marks the official start of the Hydro One 2001 Canada Summer Games Torch Relay which will wind its way across the province to London in time for the opening of the games on August 11. The official Torch Relay escorts and "Waagosh", the red fox mascot of the Canada Summer Games will be part of the parade's second leg.

"Our involvement in both the Tulip Gateway Parade and the Hydro One 2001 Canada Summer Games Torch Relay are important parts of our program to connect with the communities we serve across the province," Clitheroe said.
