Archives Ontario electric utilities and Canadian Tire launch program
to increase sales of energy-efficient products September 23, 2005 Hydro One Networks, Hydro One Brampton, and members of the powerWise® Alliance have joined forces with Canadian Tire and a number of leading Ontario electricity distributors on a Fall campaign to promote the sale of energy-efficient products. The "Lighten your Electricity Bill" campaign will be launched in October to over 2.3 million electricity consumers in Ontario. Customers will receive coupons with their electricity bills, worth over $30, redeemable at Canadian Tire stores towards the purchase of compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), timers, programmable thermostats, fans, and seasonal LEDs. "This is an excellent opportunity for Hydro One customers to implement energy saving measures and reduce their electricity consumption and their bill," explained Giuliana Rossini, Director Strategy and Conservation Officer, Hydro One Networks. "It's also a great example of how large organizations can join forces to achieve a reduction in energy use and provide substantial benefits to consumers across the province." The "Lighten your Electricity Bill" program will let our customers take more control over how much, and when, they use electricity," said Roger Albert, President & CEO, Hydro One Brampton. Simple things like timers and CFLs that don't cost a lot of money can add up to savings for customers." "Canadian Tire is focused on being first-to-market with new and innovative products and certainly the introduction of energy-efficient products is something we've really been focused on for the past couple of years," says David Roussy, senior vice-president, Canadian Tire. "Energy-efficient products are not only environmentally friendly but they also help lower electricity bills so we are excited to be partnering with Ontario local electricity distribution companies to offer customers additional savings and encourage the use of energy-efficient products." Hydro One Networks owns and operates Ontario's 28,400 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 122,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.2 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the Province. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hydro One Inc, which is in turn wholly owned by the Province of Ontario. Hydro One Brampton is a subsidiary of Hydro One and distributes electricity
to 114,000 customers in Brampton, Ontario.
