Archives Hydro One spending $50,000 improving reliability to Shelburne March 20, 2006 - Hydro One is spending about $50,000 to improve power delivery reliability to Shelburne and accommodate growth in the community. The project involves installing a new underground cable or circuit from its Fiddle Park Distribution Station to serve a new subdivision north of the station and an existing subdivision south to Robert Street. This will reduce strain on existing circuits by placing electrical load on three feeders instead of two. Crews have already installed cables under Fiddle Park Lane (200 metres east of Hwy 10/Owen Sound Street) where the new circuit will be connected to the distribution grid. Crews had to bring in special equipment to bore under the road to install the new cables and not disrupt traffic. Work began in January and is planned for completion in March. "This project will significantly upgrade overall reliability in the area," said Hydro One Lines Manager Al Hacker. "It's a reflection of Hydro One's commitment to investing in its power delivery system and providing a high level of service to customers." Hydro One owns and operates Ontario's 28,400 kilometre high-voltage transmission
network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal
utilities, and a 122,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that
serves about 1.2 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities
in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Ontario Government. -30- For more information and to make arrangements for photography, contact
