Hydro One staff help complete grid connection for AIM wind generators

June 27, 2006 — Hydro One lines staff from its Aylmer work centre recently completely a $250,000 project connecting the AIM Power Gen wind turbine development on the Lake Erie shoreline south of Aylmer to the Ontario power grid. This work commenced in September and was completed last week.

Hydro One staff worked closely with private electrical contractor Black and Macdonald to transfer over 100 service connections on 95 joint-use poles that carry Hydro One and AIM Power Gen equipment in the process of linking the 66 turbines to the provincial grid at the company’s Tillsonburg Transformer Station.

“Hydro One is proud to play an important role in getting output from these wind turbines into the Ontario power system which will allow Ontarians to benefit from a clean renewable form of electricity,” said Hydro One Aylmer Customer Operations Manager Tim Stafford. “This work is a reflection of Hydro One’s commitment to investing in its power delivery system and providing a high level of service.”

Over the past five years Hydro One has invested about $4.5 billion in capital projects and maintenance to sustain and upgrade its high-voltage transmission and low-voltage distribution systems throughout the province. It plans to invest an additional $5.5 billion in system maintenance and upgrades over the next five years.

Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 28,000 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 125,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Ontario Government.
