Archives Hydro One completes repairs to Erieau station after proactive inspection September 21, 2006 Hydro One has completed repairs to its Erieau Distribution Station in order to maintain high levels of reliability for customers served by the station in the township of Harwich and the villages of Erieau, Erie Beach and Shrewsbury. During routine proactive inspection, staff found a number of broken insulators and defective switches. A team of over 15 station maintenance and lines employees was assembled to make repairs and prevent unplanned outages in the area. A planned four-hour outage was taken starting midnight September 16 to conduct the work safely with minimum impact on customers. "This project is a good example of how effective our proactive inspection process is," explained Hydro One Customer Operations Manager Gary Ruckle. "By identifying these problems before they result in an unplanned and uncontrolled power outage, we eliminate the risk of such a disruption of service to our customers. This helps us maintain good reliability in the area and reflects Hydro One's commitment to investing in its power delivery system." Over the past five years Hydro One has invested about $4.5 billion in
capital projects and maintenance to sustain and upgrade its high-voltage
transmission and low-voltage distribution systems throughout the province.
It plans to invest an additional $5.5 billion in system maintenance and
upgrades over the next five years. Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 28,000 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 125,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Ontario Government. -30- For more information and to make arrangements for photography, contact
