Archives Hydro One investing over $350,000 replacing about 120 poles
and other equipment in Rodney, Highgate and Ridgetown areas to improve
reliability February 20, 2007 As part of its ongoing maintenance program to improve electricity delivery reliability, Hydro One Provincial Lines is investing over $350,000 replacing approximately 120 old poles and other equipment such as insulators this year to improve reliability in the Rodney, Highgate and Ridgetown areas of Chatham-Kent County. The pole replacement project began early January and is expected to be completed in April. All the work will be done "live line", eliminating the need to interrupt service to customers. "Our regular line patrol program identifies poles in need of replacement so we are proactive replacing them to keep our system up to standard and better serve our customers," explained Hydro One Customer Operations Manager Gary Ruckle. About ___ poles were tested over the past two years in Chatham-Kent through the company's ongoing equipment condition assessment program. "This pole replacement project will upgrade overall reliability in the area," said Ruckle. "This work is a reflection of Hydro One's commitment to invest in its power delivery system and providing a high level of service." Over the past five years Hydro One has invested about $4.5 billion in
capital projects and maintenance to sustain and upgrade its high-voltage
transmission and low-voltage distribution systems throughout the province.
Hydro One delivers electricity safely, reliably and responsibly to homes and businesses across the province of Ontario and owns and operates Ontario's 28,000 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 125,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario.
