Archives Hydro One replaces over 200 poles to upgrade system reliability April 26, 2007
Hydro One crews from its Orangeville work centre will be replacing 207
poles this year throughout Erin Township, East Luther Township and the
Town of North Wellington at a cost of about $600,000 to upgrade power
distribution reliability. The poles to be replaced were identified during line inspections last
year. All power lines, poles and related equipment owned and operated
by Hydro One are inspected periodically to identify any potential problems
so that they can be corrected without causing a power interruption. Repairs
have already been made to deteriorated wooden cross-arms and insulators
found during the inspection. This year Hydro One crews will be patrolling major feeder lines in the
Grand Valley and Arthur areas as well as Amaranth and Mono townships and
the Town of Caledon. The work is expected to be completed by mid-October. "This critical maintenance work will significantly upgrade overall
reliability in the area," said Hydro One Orangeville Customer Operations
Manager Terry Bateman. "It's a reflection of Hydro One's commitment
to investing in its power delivery system and providing a high level of
service to customers." Hydro One owns and operates Ontario's 28,400 kilometre high-voltage transmission network that delivers electricity to large industrial customers and municipal utilities, and a 122,000 kilometre low-voltage distribution system that serves about 1.3 million end-use customers and smaller municipal utilities in the province. Hydro One is wholly owned by the Province of Ontario. - 30 - For more information and to make arrangements for photography, contact Hydro One Media Relations 24 hours a day at 1-877-506-7584 (toll-free in Ontario only) or 416-345-6868.
