Power Restored to approximately 100,000 Hydro One customers following Friday's severe summer storm

June 9, 2007 - Hydro One confirms it has restored power to 100,000 customers following Friday's severe summer storm. High winds, heavy rain and lightning resulted in a significant number of downed trees and wires and caused damage to power equipment. Approximately 27,000 customers remain without power a midday Saturday.

Hydro One crews worked through the night and more crews were mobilized in the early morning to assess and repair the damage resulting from last night's storm. Helicopters have also been deployed to conduct aerial surveys of system damage in order to prioritize restoration activities. Restoration crews report significant numbers of downed poles and trees on lines. Additional restoration support is being providing by a number of local power utilities.

While it is expected that the vast majority of customers will have power restored today, some customers in the most impacted areas, namely Bracebridge and Huntsville, could remain without power for the duration of the weekend.

The most impacted areas currently include:

"We anticipated yesterday's storm would result in significant outages so we were prepared to dispatch emergency crews immediately to undertake important repair work" said Myles D'Arcey, Senior Vice President, Customer Operations, Hydro One. "Our focused and intense restoration effort has allowed us to restore power to a significant number of customers overnight."

Important Safety Information
Hydro One strongly urges people to take extra caution near fallen power lines. Even if a fallen wire seems dead, it can be dangerous. People are urged to report to Hydro One the location of the fallen wires as soon as possible. Touching a vehicle that is in contact with a power line can be fatal.

Restoring Power to Customers with Customer-Owned Equipment
Hydro One advises customers that their privately-owned electrical equipment may have sustained damage in this week's storm. If you know that your customer-owned equipment is damaged, you will need to hire a qualified electrical contractor to undertake necessary repair work who will then arrange for the required ESA inspection and Hydro One reconnection to restore your power.
