In July 2017, the lights went out for 3,400 Hydro One customers, including a local hospital in northern Ontario.

The cause was a downed structure that carried 115,000 kV of high-voltage power. Crews were dispatched and worked as quickly and as safely possible to restore power, dealing with various conditions, such as off-road, swampy areas that included chest-deep waters.

Lucy Bonnano, the CEO of Geraldton District Hospital, later wrote the following note to a lines supervisor responsible for that area:
