When a power outage happens, our crews take to the field to restore power as quickly and as safely possible. But, how do customers know help is on the way, especially if they don't see a bucket truck in their neighbourhood, line maintainers  climbing poles or arborists removing trees?


Customers can call our 24/7 power outage line at 1-800-434-1235 and check our outage map or mobile app, but customers can opt in for a more personalized touch with proactive text and email alerts

In March, Lynda woke up to a power outage during the night and went to her phone to report the power, but instead saw a text from Hydro One letting her know help was on the way.

"There was a text telling me that a problem had been reported and the estimate time of it being fixed was 5:15 a.m.," said Lynda.

Customers can register to receive proactive personalized text or email alerts about power outages affecting their local area through myAccount.

"Power was back on at 5:45 a.m.  Just in time for me to get to work," said Lynda.

Even with challenging conditions, such as blowing snow, crews restored power before the ​​​updated estimated restoration time of 6:00 a.m. Neil and Todd, Powerline Maintainers, responded to the outage in the Caledon area and Lynda later wrote to Hydro One to give her thanks to the crews who "were out in the winds."​
