The holiday season is a little brighter around the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton, thanks to local crews from our forestry and lines operations.

Crews spent a day around the hospital, using bucket trucks to string lights, replace broken bulbs, and decorate trees. Staff dedicated a day of their personal time to make the hospital grounds more festive. “It is one day out of the year where we can do something small that makes the holidays more enjoyable for the patients, staff, and volunteers who spend their time there over the holiday season," said Gordon, a Utility Trades Supervisor.

Employees out of the Picton area have decorated trees around the hospital annually since 2011.Hospital staff are appreciative of the extra dose of holiday cheer and have let our staff know, calling the crews “Hydro Hospital Helpers" for their efforts each holiday season.

Hospital staff were not the only ones who took notice of our crew’s dedication. A family of one of the hospital's former patients recently reached out to our staff thanking them for continuing to decorate the trees each year.

In a letter to staff, a family member said the decorated trees have special meaning to her family after their mother spent time at the hospital last December. “In all the hours that seemed like days and through all of the tears, to see my mom light up when she could see those lights gave us all some peace," she wrote. “Other patients and their visitors would come look at the trees too. It was something so beautiful to help change your focus on such sad days. I am touched by the very unselfish Hydro One employees that took their time to give (our family) a little brighter Christmas at a very dark time. You never know how much a kind act like that has helped someone else out in a time when they needed it."
