Your account may qualify if it falls into one the following categories below:

• A unit as defined in the Condominium Act, 1998;

• A residential unit or a rental unit as defined in the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006;

• A member unit or a non-member unit as defined in the Co-operative Corporations Act;

• Premises under the Commerical Tenancies Act; or

• A long-term care home licensed under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007.

Please note the Government of Ontario has changed the eligibility rules for multi-unit complexes that have a mix of residential and non-residential units. As well, certain multi-unit complexes are not eligible.

In order to confirm eligibility, please complete and submit an Ontario Electricity Rebate and Regulated Price Plan Declaration Form.

• 1. The Government of Ontario has made no changes to the eligibility rules for residential only multi-unit complexes. These complexes will continue to have all their units and their entire consumption eligible for the new rebate.

• 2. The Government of Ontario has changed the eligibility rules for multi-unit complexes that have a mix of residential and non-residential units.

  • If 50 per cent or more of the units are residential, then all units and their entire consumption amount will be eligible for the new rebate.
  • If less than half of the units are residential, then all units are ineligible for the new rebate.

• 3. The government has changed the eligibility rules for multi-unit complexes that have only non-residential units. No units will be eligible for the new rebate.

You’ll need to complete an online self-declaration form , or a PDF version by fax, mail or email. If you email the form, you’ll need to scan it so your signature is shown.

It’s a building or related group of buildings containing two or more units that consists of a self-contained room or set of rooms, contains kitchen and bathroom facilities that are for the sole use of the unit and is used as a residence.

The multi-unit complexes shown below are ineligible to receive the rebate.

• Hotel, motel or motor hotel, resort, lodge, tourist camp, cottage or cabin establishment, inn, campground, trailer park, tourist home, bed and breakfast vacation establishment or vacation home.

• Living accommodation occupied by a person for penal or correctional purposes.

• A hospital.

• A premises that is subject to the Ministry of Correctional Services Act or the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017.

• Short-term living accommodation provided as emergency shelter.

• Living accomodation provided by an educational institution to its students or staff where,

  • The living accomodtion is provided primarily to persons under the age of majority, or all major questions related to the living accomodation are decided after consultation with a council or association representing the residents, and
  • The living accomodation is not intented for year-round occupancy by full-time students or staff and members of their households.

• A university, college of applied arts and technology or other entity that provided post-secondary education.

• A premises that is identified by a North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code commencing with the digits 21, 22, 23, 31, 32 or 33. NAICS maintained for Canada by Statistics Canada, as amended or revised from time to time.
