To help customers during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Ontario announced it will make it easier for small businesses to get the support they need to help pay their energy bills through the COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program-Small Business (CEAP-SB).

COVID-19 Energy Assistance Program – Small Business (CEAP-SB)

Small businesses and registered charities may be eligible for up to $1,500 in support towards their electricity bills. Newly eligible businesses can apply for these enhanced benefits starting in January 2021. Details on the new eligibility requirements will be posted as soon as they become available.

See if you qualify

Your small business or registered charity qualifies for support if:

  1. You made at least a partial payment in respect to your electricity charges prior to March 17, 2020. This includes accounts subject to an arrears payment agreement.

  2. You have overdue amounts owing on at least two of your electricity bills since March 17,2020 and have an overdue balance on the date of your application.

  3. Your business was required to close for at least 15 business days because of a government order or an inability to adapt your business to comply with public health recommendations.

Eligible small businesses and registered charities may qualify for:

  • A one-time credit of up to $850 in support if your business property is primarily electrically heated; or

  • A one-time credit of up to $425 in support if your business property is heated with natural gas

The program opens on August 31, 2020.

How to apply for a CEAP-SB credit

It’s easy to apply. All you have to do is complete and submit an online application form. Mail-in and email application forms are being updated to reflect the new eligibility requirements and will be posted shortly.

As funding is limited, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Credits will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
