How to use Green Button

  • Obtain your data file through myAccount (available now)
  • Select and install your preferred Third-Party App, connect your data and start analyzing your electricity use.

Download your data and analyze your electricity use

The Green Button Download My Data® (DMD) standard allows you to download your electricity usage data in an industry-standard XML data format. You can use this data to examine both historical and current energy usage, analyze trends, and make informed decisions about energy management.

The Green Button Connect My Data® (CMD) standard permits customers to securely give third-party apps access to their energy usage data. After the customer approves this data access, any subsequent services or interactions are between the customer and the third party.

What is Green Button?

Green Button is a North America-wide initiative focused on helping customers access and easily understand their energy usage information. Green Button provides a secure, easy-to-use format to download your detailed energy usage, and makes it easier to access your data.


Green Button provides households and businesses access to their data through two options:

  • Download My Data (available now)

  • Connect My Data

How much data can I download?

You can download up to 24 months of billing, consumption and transaction data.

Is Hydro One involved after I share my data with a third-party app?

No. After you give access to your electricity usage data to a third-party app, Hydro One is no longer responsible for your data. The relationship is solely between you and the third-party vendor.

Why was Green Button developed?

Green Button is part of Ontario’s efforts to encourage energy conservation and help customers save on electricity costs. It gives you greater control over your energy data, allowing you to access and share electricity use information in a standardized, secure manner.


A wide range of innovative tools and apps that visualize and analyze energy usage will be developed by Third-Party Vendors so that you can use your data in a way that works best for you.

Can all customers benefit from using Green Button?

Green Button enables customers to securely transfer their data to Third-Party Apps, who can help customers in managing their electricity usage. Customers gain access to data in a comprehensive format and can better manage utility expenses and usage. Business customers can access and easily manage electricity usage for multiple properties.

How can I access Green Button?

Download My Data:

Hydro One households and businesses have a choice in how to download raw data in XML format.

  1. Log in or sign up for HydroOne.com/myAccount and click on the Green Button icon that is shown below Account Strength


Connect My Data:

Hydro One households and businesses can access successfully onboarded Third-Party Apps through their online app marketplace such as Apple App Store® or Google Play Store®.

Why do I have to enter a security code?

This security measure, called CAPTCHA, is a well-known technology that prevents automated software from accessing confidential information. By entering the distorted word or picture prompt that you see in the window, we confirm that you are accessing your information and not a potentially unauthorized party.

What do I do when a CAPTCHA appears?

You will see distorted text appear in the CAPTCHA window. Simply enter the word or phrase you see into the text field and press Submit. An audio option is also available for customers who require accessibility features.
