Project Description:
Hydro One Networks Inc. has completed a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to reinforce its existing 115 kilovolt transmission infrastructure which connects the municipalities of Kapuskasing, Moonbeam, Fauquier-Strickland, and Smooth Rock Falls. Through the Class EA screening process, the project was assessed as having insignificant environmental effects.
To ensure that the area continues to receive a safe and reliable supply of electricity, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) identified the need to upgrade two sections of transmission line, shown on the project maps:
Spruce Falls Junction (JCT) to Carmichael Falls JCT, from Kapuskasing to Fauquier-Strickland; and
Gemini Smooth Rock Falls JCT to H9K Structure 127A JCT, in Smooth Rock Falls.
As part of this project, Hydro One will replace the conductor (wire) along the existing right-of-way and a number of aging/damaged wood pole structures. In addition, to accommodate the new conductor, the height of some poles may need to be increased and some new wood poles may be required. The locations for these pole modification and additions will be identified during the detailed engineering and design phase following completion of the Class EA.
