Region Overview

This region currently comprises the communities of Fort Albany, Kashechewan, and Attawapiskat. Until 2000, these communities were part of Ontario Hydro Remotes and where not connected to the Ontario power system grid. Electrical power to these communities was provided by diesel generators.

In 1997 Five Nations Energy Inc. (FNEI) was incorporated and from 2001 to 2003 all three communities were connected to the Hydro One network. All transmission in the area is owned by FNEI which makes them the lead transmitter for this region. In addition to the three communities mentioned, FNEI also supplies a significant amount of mining load.
