Empowering youth in Gravenhurst
We’re energizing life by supporting Gravenhurst Against Poverty’s new Young Adult Centre
In August, we visited Gravenhurst Against Poverty and announced our partnership to develop a new Young Adult Centre, made possible by our Energizing Life initiative. This centre will be a safe space where youth in the Gravenhurst community can explore various skills and passions, connecting with peers and building long-lasting friendships.
“Gravenhurst Against Poverty will be energizing life in its community for years to come through the safe community spaces and inclusive programs it provides and we’re honoured to play a part in bringing its vision of a new community hub to life through Hydro One’s Energizing Life program.”
Jay Armitage, Vice President of Marketing & Communications, Hydro One
The Young Adult Centre will be accessible to Gravenhurst youth ages 12-29, providing in-person programs like art and cooking classes, life coaching, post-secondary planning and financial mentorship support. This centre will provide youth the chance to be heard with ongoing one-on-one mentorship to help them prosper in their community.
We feel a responsibility to partner with organizations like Gravenhurst Against Poverty that are working tirelessly to keep the community feel connected and safe.
“Gravenhurst Against Poverty is very grateful for funding for the Young Adult Centre that is going to be a vital part of our town. We have young people who have suffered from mental illness and loneliness. They just want to be together and have a space to be themselves and learn new skills.”
Bonnie Dart, Chair & Volunteer, Gravenhurst Against Poverty
