Project Overview
Powering northern Ontario is an important part of Hydro One's past and future. To ensure continued supply of reliable power to the region, Hydro One is undertaking a refurbishment of the A8K/A9K circuits that span between the Town of Kirkland Lake, Timiskaming District, Cochrane District, to the Township of Black River-Matheson and the Town of Iroquois Falls (see below map).
As a part of this project Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator requires an ampacity increase on these circuits to maintain reliability in the area and enable system benefits in a cost-effective manner.
Construction activities are underway to complete this important work. Please read the construction notice for more information.
Class Environmental Assessment (EA)
This project is subject to the Class Environmental Assessment for Minor Transmission Facilities (2022) in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act and was initially assessed following the Class EA Screening Process. That process was initiated in July 2018. Consultation with elected officials, municipal representatives, government agencies, Indigenous communities, interest groups and the public is an integral part of any environmental assessment process. Based on feedback received during the Class EA Screening Process, Hydro One assessed the project following the full Class EA Process.
