Project Overview

We received approval from the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to build new transmission facilities in the Leamington area. The facilities are:

  • a new TS on our property on Mersea Road 6 adjacent to the municipal utility corridor in the Municipality of Leamington; and

  • a new 13 kilometre double circuit 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line on a new corridor to connect the station to the existing 230 kV transmission line south of Highway 401 in the Town of Lakeshore.

The site for the Leamington TS and proposed route for the connector line were identified during the Class Environmental Assessment (EA) and public consultations we conducted from 2007-2010 for the Supply to Essex County Transmission Reinforcement Project. In 2010, the Class EA was completed and the final Environmental Study Report (ESR) was submitted to the Ministry of the Environment.

Due to economic conditions at that time, it was decided that Hydro One not seek approval to construct the project until the Ontario Power Authority (now the Independent Electricity System Operator) had an opportunity to further review the long-term electricity needs of the Windsor-Essex area. The Ontario Power Authority, in its regional supply planning discussions with our team and local distribution companies (LDCs) in the Windsor-Essex area, identified the need for these new facilities.
