Building the infrastructure to support future growth: Demand for electricity in parts of southwestern Ontario is expected to triple by 2026
Greenhouse, transportation and manufacturing industries are significant drivers of this growth
The amount of growth in southwestern Ontario is incredible. We know that demand for electricity in parts of southwestern Ontario is expected to triple by 2026, as forecasted by the IESO.
We’re building the infrastructure today that supports the future needs of tomorrow. With the booming greenhouse, transportation and manufacturing industries driving a considerable amount of this growth, we’re actively responding to ensure that the infrastructure can be scaled to meet the future needs of these communities.
Our Chatham to Lakeshore project is paving the way for growth in southwestern Ontario. Hear from our Vice President of Transmission & Stations, Andrew Spencer, as he explains how infrastructure like the Chatham to Lakeshore project supports local supply chains, economies and jobs.
Joe Sbrocchi, General Manager of Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, tells us about the impact and opportunities that the greenhouse industry brings to the region.
“Greenhouses are a wonderful innovation and they can produce high yield crops almost continuously year round — but they do require a lot of energy and that’s where we come in.”
Andrew Spencer, Vice President, Transmission & Stations, Hydro One
