Hydro One is committed to developing and maintaining relationships with Indigenous peoples that demonstrate mutual respect for one another.*

We own assets on reserve lands and within the traditional territories of First Nations and Métis peoples. We recognize that First Nations and Métis peoples and their lands are unique in Canada, with distinct legal, historical and cultural significance.

*Hydro One defines Indigenous as First Nations, Métis and Inuit.

We are committed to working with Indigenous peoples in a spirit of co-operation and shared responsibility. Forging relationships with Indigenous communities based upon trust, confidence and accountability is vital to achieving our corporate objectives. Our Indigenous Relations Policy enhances and complements other corporate policies and will guide us in our relationships with Indigenous peoples.

Outreach Sessions

We conduct one-on-one outreach sessions with communities, businesses and Chiefs to discuss:

  • The procurement process

  • How to complete an RFP

  • How to register with SAP Ariba

  • How to register for the Indigenous Business Directory

  • How to create potential opportunities with other Indigenous and non-Indigenous businesses.

Hydro One suppliers may also be invited to attend and to network with local Indigenous communities and businesses. The purpose of the invitation is to increase local Indigenous business or subcontracting opportunities on Hydro One projects.

Indigenous Business Directory

Hydro One uses a sourcing tool called SAP Ariba. During the registration process, companies have the opportunity to declare their Indigenous ownership and to be listed on our Indigenous Business Directory. For instructions on how to register your company in SAP Ariba, please visit our Suppliers page.
