Region Overview

The Windsor-Essex region is the southern-most part of Ontario, extending from Chatham southwest to Windsor. It consists of the City of Windsor, the Municipality of Leamington, the Town of Amherstberg, the Town of Essex, the Town of Kingsville, the Town of Lakeshore, the Town of LaSalle, the Town of Tecumseh, and the Township of Pelee, as well as the western portion of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent.

Current Status

The Third Regional Planning cycle for this region was initiated with publishing of Needs Assessment report in February 2023 by Hydro One and followed by releasing of Scoping Assessment in May 2023 and Integrated Regional Resource Plan in April 2025 by the IESO. It is expected that the Regional Infrastructure Plan, which is the final step of Regional Planning cycle will be completed by October 2025.​
