Who we are

We are Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider. Every day, our employees work to deliver safe and reliable electricity to homes, businesses and communities across the province.

Together with First Nation partners across Ontario, we are advancing multiple transmission line projects through the 50-50 First Nation Equity Partnership Model. These partnerships help create long-term economic opportunities while supporting the infrastructure needed to meet Ontario's growing energy needs.

We support the local economy by spending over 91% of our supplier budget with Ontario-based companies. As Ontario continues to grow, we're focused on building and maintaining the infrastructure needed to connect communities, support economic development and deliver reliable electricity for years to come.

Our role in the system

  1. Generation

In Ontario, electricity is generated from a mixture of nuclear, hydroelectric, wind and natural gas resources.

  2. Transmission

Electricity travels across the province through the transmission system. Hydro One owns and operates approximately 94% of this.

  3. Distribution

Depending on your region, the electricity is then distributed by Hydro One or transferred to a local utility, where power lines connect communities to the power grid.

  4. Customers

Electricity is delivered to your home and/or business.
