Hydro One recognizes three groups of Indigenous peoples: Indians (commonly referred to as First Nations), Métis and Inuit, as identified in the Canadian Constitution.
Hydro One considers an Indigenous business one which is at least 51% owned and controlled by an Indigenous business(es) or person(s) and, if the firm has six or more full-time staff, at least 33% of the employees are of Indigenous descent. Alliances, Joint Ventures or Partnerships are at least 51% owned and controlled by an Indigenous business(es) or person(s).
Joint ventures or consortiums must confirm that at least one third of the value of the work performed under the contract will be done by an Indigenous firm. It may be work done by the Indigenous partner/contractor or by an Indigenous sub-contractor.
