Thinking of using a renewable “green" energy technology to generate your own electricity and reduce your monthly costs? Net Metering might be the ideal solution for you.

Our Net Metering program is available to any Hydro One customer who generates electricity primarily for their own use from a renewable energy source (wind, water, solar radiation or agricultural biomass).

Net metering allows you to send electricity generated from Renewable Energy Technologies (RETs) to Hydro One's distribution system for a credit towards your electricity costs. Excess generation credits can be carried forward for a consecutive 12 month period to offset future electricity costs. Net-metered customers can now pair energy storage with renewable energy systems. Information on connecting micro generation (up to 10 kW) to Hydro One's system is available here.

Getting Connected

NOTE: Applicants are cautioned not to incur any expenses until we approve to connect the proposed generation facility.

For customers interested in applying for the Net Metering program or existing Net Metering customers wishing to upgrade or change to a different program or in need of a study agreement, please contact our Business Customer Centre at 1-877-447-4412 or DxGenerationConnections@HydroOne.com prior to submitting a completed Form C - Micro Generation Connection Application (for projects 10 kW or less in size) or a Form B - Connection Impact Assessment Form (for projects greater than 10 kW in size). Please visit the Distributed Generation web page to access those forms.

Important information about your generation connection and transformer sizing:

Please review the Technical Interconnection Requirements (TIR) – Micro Generation & Small Generation, 3-phase, less than 30 kW and Generation Transformer Guide. You may incur additional costs for your connection according to your existing transformer size and the amount of generation you propose to install.
