Why does it take so long for Hydro One to get the power back on?

Hydro One Networks is committed to providing safe, reliable electric service to our customers. We have crews, procedures and materials ready to respond to outages, make repairs and restore power to our customers as quickly as possible. Our top priority is restoring electricity to Ontario's first responders — fire, police and hospitals—that are needed to assist others in emergency situations. Water treatment facilities and sewage treatment plants are also a priority. Power restoration work is prioritized by trying to do the greatest good for the greatest number of customers. Our crews do the work that will get electricity back on for the largest number of people first. This means focusing on transmission equipment (the big towers and lines) and distribution lines (wood poles and lines) that serve a large number of people. While this is logical, it can often mean a longer wait for customers in more remote locations, which is understandably frustrating. Read more about getting your electricity back on here.

Why do you have planned outages?

Planned outages are interruptions in service that are scheduled in advance in order to perform system maintenance or provision of new service. Scheduled outages are critical to the performance of our transmission and distribution system.

Can I report an outage via text messaging or the mobile application?

Yes you can! Text 'OUT' to 92887 (WATTS) and follow the prompts to report your outage. Standard messaging and data rates may apply.
